Sutton Mercer watches from the afterlife as her long-lost twin, Emma Paxton, takes over her identity to solve her murder. But after ruling out her early leads, Emma still hasn’t found Sutton’s killer. A lot of people wanted her dead—but one name keeps popping up: Thayer Vega. When the gorgeous and mysterious Thayer returns to town, Emma has to move fast to figure out whether he’s back for revenge…or if he already got it.
Set in a town where friends can turn into dangerous enemies and everyone harbors dark secrets, The Lying Game is a juicy new series that fans of the #1 New York Times bestselling Pretty Little Liars series—and the hit ABC Family show—will love.
I know this is sad, but even though I'm on the third book in this series, I STILL have trouble trying to separate the characters and happenings in the TV show and the characters and happenings in the books. I mean, they are mostly completely different. But I do love both.

Sara Shepard really knows how to write a good mystery. She keeps it creepy, but enjoyable and glamorous. If that makes sense.  I love both Pretty Little Liars and this series. TV show and books. She's a fantastic story teller and definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Once again, as with ALL of Sara's books, they give you a suspect and make everything point to them. You start believing it's actually them, but then BAM you're left back at step one by the end of the book. I don't want to go too much into detail about that because I don't want to spoil the book. But gosh....

I'd love to sit here and discuss theories of who the murderer might be and who is blackmailing Emma into keeping quiet about Sutton and herself, but I don't want to give anything away. But if you've read the first three books and would like to discuss, feel free to email me!

I really like Emma. I've always liked Emma better. I mean, c'mon, she's the nice twin. But, you know, it is refreshing to hear Sutton's thought every now and again to spice things up. Which I LOVE the added memories in this book. It really sheds some light on things and makes you able to see her side of what happened.

You also get to know more about Thayer in this book which I liked, though I'm  a bit creeped out by the book Thayer sometimes. But hey, that's good!

Overall, this was a great addition to the series and I'm very excited for the next! I definitely liked this one better than the second one. I hope I'll like the next one even better than this one. If you haven't checked out anything by Sara yet, please do. She may sound like a fluff writer, and parts of that may be true, but she sure knows how to keep you guessing and her books have great mystery.

  1. I heard sooo many things about Shepard's works but I never watched the tv series nor read any book by her, but I used to always wonder why she likes to write about people lying, but after reading your review, I guess it's more about the mystery than just lying people. In mystery books, I love that feeling you get when you think you have everything figured out only to be awed when you find out what really happened.

    1. She's a great writer, her books are really intriguing. You should try out one of her books and the shows soon. :)

And the Lying Game is some games Sutton and her friends used to play. It's pranks on some people they may not have liked. =/

  2. I really should pick this series up one of these days! I did mostly enjoy the PLL series. I agree that she is great at writing the creepy/enjoyable combo. She has a really interesting balance I've never seen before.

  3. I read the first book and I remember really loving it. I always wanted to read Pretty Little Liars series, but I got hooked on the TV show and now I'm scared to read them, because I know what will happen. The excitement is all gone. I watched the first episode of the Lying Game & I didn't like it. The girl who plays the main character isn't that great! I'm wondering if I should just read the series (and not watch the show, lol)....wondering. :) Great review!!

    1. Ooh don't worry about already knowing what happens. I've read up to book 4.5 and I've watched every episode of Pretty Little Liars. Some scenes are the same, but a lot of them aren't. It's hard to explain.

One of my good friends is reading the books now and she's watched every episode. She would of been the same way.

I love the TV show and the books for The Lying Game. Alexandra is a bit weird at first in the first episode, but after a while you get used to her and like her. :)

They are also kind of the same, but at the same not. Not sure if that makes any sense, ha!
